About Therapy

Therapy will look different for each individual, couple or family that I work with. There isn’t a wrong way to do therapy, so long as you are moving towards the life and goals that you want for yourself.

HOW I WORK

Do you find yourself repeatedly questioning who you are and what you are doing? Are you left wondering why you feel so bad when so much of your life looks so good on the surface? Or maybe a new relationship is starting to show signs of problems you thought you escaped. I think about therapy as a place to manage these feelings, better understand where they come from and what they are telling us, all in the interest that the intensity of them may fade and/or we may move to act.

My clinical work focuses on identifying the repeating patterns that leave an individual or couple feeling stuck, trapped or dissatisfied with their life. As a psychodynamic therapist, I find that these patterns are often rooted in the visible and invisible messages our families, cultures and society at large as well as the different ways that our brains and bodies are wired. We will attempt to identify your underlying needs and challenge the obstacles that keep you from getting there. While with individuals I work primarily from a psychodynamic and relational perspective, where appropriate, I also blend other practical techniques into our work including elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. With couples I work from the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) model that integrates our past experiences with our biological predispositions to help couples better care for each other.

Who I work with

I work with individuals, couples and families of various backgrounds and stages of life to help explore life challenges and make meaningful change.

I particularly enjoy working with:

  • People who are curious and introspective

  • People exploring questions of identity and meaning

  • People with a sense of humor

  • Individuals with ADHD

  • Athletes and other high performance individuals interested in exploring their relationship with their activity

  • Emotionally aware men

  • Families with adult children looking to form deeper connections

  • Couples who seem to find themselves locked in the same patterns and would like to work together to find new ways of engaging

  • People experiencing suicidal thoughts and self harm

  • Cats… unfortunately I don’t get too many inquiries from cats

Regardless of who I am working with, my goal is for you to be able to see and speak the deepest truths of yourself so that you may move with intention through the world.

  • Individual sessions

For many, the starting place of therapy is introspective; looking into your life to come to know yourself more deeply and to see see the roots of anxiety, depression or other areas you may be struggling with. This foundation allows you to make change (or not— if you so decide).

Sessions are $160 on a weekly basis

  • Couples therapy

With couples I work to orient partners towards each other and to draw on each other as resources for mutual care. This often requires rekindling trust and building new agreements and patterns of communication.

Sessions are $195 per 50 minute session.

  • Family sessions

Family sessions are geared towards helping families listen to and care for all of its members and to speak aloud the silent patterns and norms that can feel limiting or restrictive.

Sessions are $195 per 50 minute session.
